If you’re willing to spend a little more time poring over the holiday ads, you can save yourself a bucket of money on gifts this season. How? By taking advantage of the price matching policies at Target and Walmart, and by keeping your eyes open for store coupons. Check out this post from Tracie of Kansas City Penny Pinchin’ Mama for more on how to price match at these stores.
Essentially, both Target and Walmart will match the price advertised in a print circular if you bring it in and show it to them. They will not, however, match Internet prices, buy-one-get-one-free deals, bundle offers, etc. Tracie outlines what they will not match.
With price matching in mind, there are a few great deals that will be tough to beat (better than the deals on many of the same items that I posted this morning!). All of the prices below are from the Toys R Us Toy Catalog (“Biggest Big Book Ever”) that came in Sunday’s newspaper (11/1).
You’ll likely be able to find these ads in-store at Toys R Us as well. Bring this catalog with you to Target and bookmark the pages. Then price match to your heart's content!

Thanks for providing a great list of suitable coupons for saving on toy related items. There are items that anyone can use to give as as gift for Christmas.
I didn't know Toy 'R' Us offered these coupon deals on their toys.
Target will not price match the toysrus big book because it is not a "weekly" ad but a special ad. If it is weekly then you are in luck!
Thank you for posting the Target price match policy. I actually called 6 Target stores in my area (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) today and I was informed Target did NOT do price match from Competitors. After reading this post, I called 2managers and requested them to inform their staff on this policy. Thanks a bunch.
I took the Toys R Us big book w/ me to Target last night, matched the price on Lulu the FurReal Cuddlin' Kitty to $39.99. I then used the $10 off coupon that's in the Target book & online (good until 11/27) for a final price of $29.99!
FYI-Customer Service also told me if you don't have the print ad with you, you can buy the item, then bring your receipt & the print ad back for a price adjustment.
I just got the Clue: Secrets and Spies game at Target. They priced matched the Toys R Us price shown in the Big Toy Book without question AND I used both the Target $5 coupon and the Hasbro $5 coupon. Target's price on the game is $23.99 and I paid $9.99. YEAH!!!!
I had the same problem as anonymous, I tried to price match with the big toy book and customer service told me the same thing, they only price match with weekly circulars.
I read the Target policy very closley and it states that the will match current, local printed ads for in-store products only. I am taking the policy with me and getting an adjustment! Even though they stated no special ads, the policy doesn't state that! Hope it works
It worked! I took the policy in to the store and they did the price match. I got the ABC alpha pal for $10.49 each and used the $10.00 coupon. Got the item for $.49. The policy doesn't state that they don't match doorbuster deals, so they had to do it. The policy in the store does state it, but the one posted on their website doesn't so they matched it.
Can anyone say where is price for ABC alpha pal is $10.49? On toys r us website, it's for $19.99.
