I’ve received several requests from readers to explain the acronyms I use in some of my deal posts, so here you go. If you have more questions, feel free to leave a comment or drop me an email!
PG, RP & SS: These stand for Procter & Gamble, Red Plum and Smart Source, and these refer to the coupon inserts that come in the Sunday newspaper. So, for example, when I say that you’ll find a certain coupon in the “10/26 SS insert,” that means you’ll find it in the Smart Source coupon insert of October 26.
Each coupon insert will say either Procter & Gamble, Red Plum or Smart Source right on the front page. If you’re not sure the date, look on the spine of the insert and you’ll find the date right there.
ECB: ECB stands for ExtraCare Buck, which is money that can be used only at CVS. So, let’s say an item is on sale for $5 and you get back $2 ECBs. That means you pay $5 at the cash register (or less if you have a coupon) and you’ll get back $2 at the end of your receipt (when you use your CVS ExtraCare Card). You just clip it off the end of the receipt and use it next time as cash.
CRT: This stands for Cash Register Tape, and while I rarely use this acronym, this refers to a store-specific coupon that comes out at the end of your receipt. So when you make a purchase at CVS you may receive both ECBs (CVS cash) and CRTs (coupons on the receipt that can only be used at CVS).
RR: RR stands for Register Rewards. It’s the same as an ECB, only it’s specific to Walgreens. It’s like cash that can only be used at Walgreens. It doesn’t come on your receipt like at CVS, but instead will be given as a Catalina coupon (a coupon that comes out next to the register receipt that can be used on a future purchase).
ESR: When you see someone write about an ESR they’re talking about EasySaver Rebates at Walgreens. These are cash back rebates you can apply for online or by mail. The ESR coupon and rebate catalog comes out once a month and can be found in Walgreens or online.
SCR: An SCR is a Single Check Rebate, which is the Rite Aid version of an ESR. It’s a cash back rebate on purchases made at Rite Aid. You can find the Rite Aid SCR booklet in their stores and on their web site as well.
I hope this helps. Are there any other key acronyms that I missed?

Thanks so much for the great tips. I just started paying attention to coupons. ~Katy
Thank you so much!! This really helps!
I was totally baffled by this one when I first started:
OOP = Out of Pocket (referring to money/cash actually spent at the register).
:)
Erin,
I've posted about coupon inserts on my blog and will refer to the date of the insert, etc., but I never knew that you could find the date of the insert on the spine! I keep my inserts until they've pretty much expired in case I want to go back and clip additional coupons ....and now I know where to find the date in case I decide to post about an older coupon...thanks so much for this tip :)
So nice to see the explanations. But which paper should i look for. Sunday paper ? WE buy News Observer and nothing comes along with it. is it something specific to certain places ?
I passed up a few great deals since I was unable to decipher what the codes meant and being new to this. Thank you for answering what I had planned to ask. It's thorough and I even printed it as a daily reminder just in case I forget. Thanks!
Is the there an actual card you get from walgreens that gets scanned, like at CVS, or is it just automatic when you purchase the item? I asked about register rewards at walgreens and the girl had no idea what I was refering to.
My Walgreens says that EasySaver Rebates catalog has been discontinued. I can't find it on their website either. Do you know anything about this? Thanks
Sometimes i see Use 2 $1/1 coupons to buy certain things. What does it mean ? Should I use the coupon two times ?
What are register rewards???
Walgreens, just recently stopped the booklet and ERS.

Thanks so much, these are very helpful. FYI....I live up north and grocery shop at Stop n' Shop. Keep in mind, when you use a CRT here(coupon printed with the cash register tape) you can no longer use this with a manufacturer's coupon. I was told this over the weekend. So if you have a CRT for $1.00 off Cheerios and a General Mills coupon for $0.50 off Cheerios, you may only use one of the coupons,There was a time both could be used, but the CRT coupon now states it cannot be used with another coupon. I was kind of disappointed, however I use the greater of the two coupons. This policy also applies to the CVS where I shop. Good Luck all!
Whenever there is an offer to print a coupon within your Coupon Cravings by clicking on it, I go to the site, click on print coupons, and I get a window that says "please wait", but no coupon is ever shown or printed. I noticed the website for these is mostly bricks.coupons.com. How can I get these coupons that your readers share with everyone on your Coupon Cravings? Love receiving your Coupon Cravings daily! Thanks!!!!
If anyone lives in New York area King Kullen doubles 1.00 coupons.. Sometimes you get a good deal...
