It’s time for another $5 Charity Challenge gift card giveaway. Congratulations to last week’s winner: Courtney at Homemaker Hero who plans to use her $5 gift card to buy needed items for her local women’s shelter.
Now, on with the $5 Charity Challenge. Just leave me a comment by Friday at 8 p.m. ET with a little bit on how you’d use a $5 gift card from Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, Walgreens or CVS to benefit your community (e.g., toiletries for the homeless shelter, canned goods for the food pantry, etc.).
Local charities are often in need of shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, lotion, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, light bulbs, baby wipes, household cleaners, trash bags, etc. And of course don't forget non-perishable food items and pet food for food pantries.
If you’re the winner, just take a photo of what you bought using the $5 gift card and either send me a link to the blog post you write about the charitable donation or just email me the photo and charity name. I’d love to promote your good work.
Thanks again your participation and good luck. Check out BeCentsAble for another opportunity to participate in a $5 Charity Challenge.

I have a neighbor who just took in 3 foster kids. They need toothbrushes, toothpaste, mouth rinse. This is her first time so I know she doesn't have any stuff yet.
Our church has a food pantry (which includes toiletries) for people in our community who are struggling. I would purchase toiletries to help stock it up. I know that people who have food stamps struggle to purchase toiletry items, since they are not covered by the food stamps.
I take our extra "free" toiletries to the USO. I normally take my CVS/Walgreens stuff of the week, and every other week I go through my stockpile/supply closet and thin it out. It's so easy to get a MASSIVE load in there. I also started a personal charity challenge where I'll donate 10% of all of my savings to a charity - whether in monetary donation or in stuff (like the weekly load I take to the USO).
I donate from my stockpile twice a year to a women's domestic violence shelter, and twice a year to a nearby food pantry. This way I rotate my 'stock', and I keep my family supplied and help those in need. It benefits me by allowing me the fun of playing the drugstore game, the satisfaction of helping others and I get tax receipts for the donation, which makes DH happy.
Here's a Wags scenario:
Oral-b toothbrush 4.49 -.75
get 4.50 RR back
transaction 2
3 Dimetap @3.99 use 3 2.00 off coupons Pay with 4.50 rr and about 1.50 cash. You'll pay a big more than $5 but it allows you to roll your RRs and get some needed items for the upcoming cold/flu season! You could keep one dimetap and donate the other things, and still do well at a cost of $1.50 oop for one dimetap.
I would love to send this to a soldier in Iraq. My son is serving in Irag and there are soldiers that never get anything - mail, packages or anything. When I send my son a package, I send a soldier one - there is a website you can go to that gives you the addresses - I google it.
I am building up some things to give to a transitional home for ex-offenders where I used to work. They often get out of prison with hardly any money and have to buy all their toiletries, etc. Thanks for doing this contest!
I would use the gift card to give items to a local pantry. Thanks for helping so many people with your giveaway.
I would use the gift card to set up a "roll it forward" type of deal... buying items from CVS (using the $5 gc) that earned ECB's and using those ECB's to earn more ECB's each week, while donating the stuff received off the ECB's to my local battered women's shelter.
I would give the gift card to the Interfaith Center in my area which is helping victims from Hurricane Ike.
