It’s Sunday, and that means it’s time for the $5 Charity Challenge gift card giveaway for this week. Congratulations to last week’s winner, Fiddle D. Dee of Seedlings to Sunflowers, who plans to use her gift card on needed supplies for her local food pantry through the Baptist Association.
The rules are the same as last week. Just leave me a comment by Friday at 8 p.m. ET with a little bit on how you’d use a $5 gift card from Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, Walgreens or CVS to benefit your community (e.g., toiletries for the homeless shelter, canned goods for the food pantry, etc.).
Local charities are often in need of shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, lotion, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, light bulbs, baby wipes, household cleaners, trash bags, etc. And of course don't forget non-perishable food items and pet food for food pantries.
If you’re the winner, just take a photo of what you bought using the $5 gift card and either send me a link to the blog post you write about the charitable donation or just email me the photo and charity name. I’d love to promote your good work.
Thanks again your participation and good luck. Check out BeCentsAble for another opportunity to participate in a $5 Charity Challenge.

I would use my gift card to buy toiletries for our adopted solder in Iraq. You'd surprised how hard it is to wash yourself without soap/shampoo. Also, anyone else sending items overseas, they REALLY love the powdered drink packs to add to their bottled water.
I spend $5 at CVS to buy things for our USO. And whatever they don't take, I end up donating to a local church (I rotate between a whole bunch since we don't go to a church).
Hey Erin! My church is collecting items for the Southeastern Children's Home. I have already acquired many items for free or cheap at CVS. I would spend the card at CVS to get more items. The next items on my list are Ambi soap, more colgate total, Revlon nail polish (the home has teenage girls), Aussie hair products. All of these are on special at CVS this week. With or without the card, I'll be buying these items this week. Thanks for the reminder to give as we have been given!
I went today and a bunch of Right Guard deodorants. With coupons, the $2/$10 coupon, and my ECBs, I spent well under $5. These will go in my monthly donation box to our local food pantry.
They are opening brand-new apartments for homeless teens and are having a housewarming in a few weeks. I would use the giftcard to get as many toiletries and household items as possible at CVS.
I would use the gift card to get items for the House of Courage-a Christian Ministry that takes in teens and their babies and helps them establish their family (job skills, homemaking, parenting, etc)
I would use the gift card to donate to the local churches who are housing hurricane victims that have migrated here from New Orleans. They are asking for deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes and all of that can be bought at CVS for cheap this week.
