What Was Your Freak Out Moment?

I was planning for my weekly grocery shopping trip last night and as I was going through my coupons I realized my $7 Register Rewards certificate from Walgreens had expired the day before. Eek! So I tweeted on Twitter to see if it was possible to use an expired RR and then I did a Google Search to see if anyone knew.

I wasn’t getting answers fast enough so I just grabbed the ad, put a quick plan together to spend $7 and raced out to Walgreens (dear hubby for sure thought I was crazy).

After I completely freaked out over this expired coupon, the cashier either didn’t notice or didn’t care that it had expired one day before, and I was able to buy quite a lot too.

2 x Scott Toilet Paper (4 pk)

5 x Kleenex Tissue (120-ct)

2 x Bic Pens (8 pk)

2 x Aquafresh Toothpaste

2 x Tuf Paper Towels

With my coupons and my RR my OOP was only $.94. So, we’ve all had a freak out moment over an expired coupon or a missed deal. What was your freak out moment?

I've only been coupon shopping for a few months. But I would have to say my "moment" so far was when we were out of town for the July 4th holiday, and missed getting Sunday papers that week. I was thinking it would be a no insert Sunday like Memorial Day weekend. When I found out later that there were not only inserts that day, but good P&G coupons, I was a wreck.

I think I've adapted since then - I'm in charge of the coupon use, not it being in charge of me. :-) But that hasn't been tested much!

I had a freak out moment last week over a deal that I messed up. Rite Aid was running a sale on Kellogg's products in conjunction with the Kellogg's rebate. Well, I went to Rite Aid and bought 10 boxes of the cereal thinking that after the Kellogg's rebate and Rite Aid rebate I would be getting each box for 30 cents.

That night I was filling out the rebate form when I noticed that 2 of the 10 boxes were not big enough to qualify for the rebate. I had my "freak out" moment then. I was so disappointed. And my husband thought I was nuts! :) He definitely see what the big deal was.

Good post! Nice to see others have "freak out moments" over good deals too!

I carefully planned my CVS trip for last week. I had my purchases divided into 3 transactions, so I could use 3 $2/$10 coupons. I got to the store, breathed a sigh of relief as everything on my list was in stock, loaded up my cart, double checked I had all of the manufacturer Q's, and headed to checkout. And as I got to the checkout counter I realized I'd never printed out the $2/$10 coupons!

I told the cashier I'd forgotten my coupons and asked if I could just leave my full cart there at the front until I got back. She agreed, I raced home, and returned to use my coupons. Phew, crisis averted! But, I will be double checking that I have ALL coupons before I leave the house from now on!

You were a lot luckier than me - I realised late one night (as I was trying to sleep!) that I hadn't used a $3 off coupon I had at Walgreens. Hubby went in the next day to try adn use it (he looks more innocent than me!) and they wouldn't take it! Arrrrghhh! I then realised how much i had spent on the stuff that i thought was a good deal!

I have had that problem when I have misplaced a CVS Extra Care buck, or ALL of my Extra Care Bucks. That is nearly enough to cause me to need to call for CPR.

Luckily I called Customer Care and they were able to reset them for me. PHEW!

A cashier at CVS once told me you can use the ECBs when they are expired, the RRs are probably the same since it is like your money, I guess. I did miss out on my free CVS gift, I passed up the small bottle of asperin in hopes of finding a larger bottle and before I new it, it was expired. I try not to freak out over missing out once in a while. I just think of all the hundred of dollars in freebies I've gotten.

I freaked out when I realized that I hadn't used a Chickfila coupon from the calendar that I paid for. I took it anyway and asked if I could use it. They let me. I have since found out that a lot of Chickfila's take expire coupons. I love them!

I found a $13.98 ECB in a box of old receipts. Yikes! I tried to use it but it was too long expired. That hurt, yknow? I contacted CVS and begged them to reset it but no dice.

They did reset a $6 one that I lost, though -- even though they couldn't find the account! It turns out I was unknowingly using a card that I had never filled out the form for, but after I sent in an email request, they looked up my regular account and credited it to that! That was some EXTRA ExtraCare, no?

I had a similar situation when I realized that my $40 in Best Buy rewards expired the day before and they would not let me use it. I ended up calling customer service and they agreed to re-issue it one time--I was freaking out though--that was $40!!! Thank-god they re-issued it.

I don't have a CVS anywhere in my area (and by anywhere and I mean several hours to the nearest one) which is a bummer because it seems like everyone gets such great deals there. Anyway I am totally addicted to Rite Aid (and Walgreens, but not as much as Rite Aid). I live in a tiny town that does not have any major drugstore chain, but he closest Rite Aid is only 15 minutes away and I usually got there every Sunday or Monday to get deals. Well imagine how much I freaked out when I went there two weeks ago and realized that the Rite Aid was going out of business. It literally ruined the rest of may day and my husband, who was with me, thought I was crazy. He still doesn't understand why we can't just go to one store for everything?

ughhh moment? just one huh? I have soooo many I can't even count.. if anyone is interested go to my blog and click on either the "nervous nelly" or "rookie mistake" catagory.

I'd have to say last week when I went to a different CVS and planned 5 transactions which I've never done before. The most I've done is 3 transactions at one store at a time. I had all my little notes, all my coupons printed and clipped together ready to go. I get there, everything is in stock, I get my little fillers, even had time to browse some clearance.. get the counter and after my first transaction they wouldn't take my $4/$20 coupon which was expiring THAT DAY and all but 1 of my last 4 transactions depended on that coupon! ughh

Also, my other freak out has been that since I'm so new to this realizing how much $$ I've spent on products in the past that I really didn't need, use, or even like.. that I did nothing about it.. did not call the manufacturer, didn't return said item even if I kept the receipt or realized right away I didn't need it.

Also, I joined a few different product testing companies over the years and have recieved NUMEROUS free product coupons and always "intended" to use them or pass them on to family/friends and just never did. I can hardly believe I've thrown out so many freebies over the years!! ughh

Okay.. now I'm on a roll.. let's just add that to how I've come to realize that just last year I was $30,000 in debt.. debt that was spread out over different CC.. all of which I never got any rewards from! lol! not one! DUH! $30,000 should have gotten me SOMETHING right?

Wow I keep thinking of other "moments" even driving to WAGS, CVS, Wal-Mart, or a grocery store and then having to drive home empty handed or not getting the deal I intended to get in the first place. I get mad that I wasted the gas to drive there! lol!

Okay I'll stop now! I can't wait to read others!

Just yesterday I discovered a $5rr that had expired a week ago - I just through it away and mourned my loss. I felt comforted though that it was only $5 back from some super cheap diapers that I had bought in July and they were still a good deal anyway. I hate it when I miss out on savings.

The second week I started shopping at CVS I lost my coupon binder in the parking lot! After 3 days of searching the car, house, work, etc, I realized it must be at CVS. The ignorant horrible manager remembered the binder..but she said threw it out because she didn't know whose it was "and we can't hold onto everything left in the store". I was devastated but at least there were no ECBs in there.

A couple months ago when I had just begun couponing, I did a deal at dominicks - purchase $40 worth of participating products and get two free movie tickets. Combining coupons with in-store deals (and spending several hours in the store), I got a lot of goods!

I put the movie tickets aside for a special day and a couple weeks back decided to use them. My husband and I were on the way home to grab them, when suddenly I began to fret that they had expired. Anxiety was piling up... I raced to grab the tickets and found that they expired THAT DAY! What a relief! Totally by chance that our movie urge happened to fall on the last day of the offr. :)

After my fifth child was born in May, I accidentally let $31 in ECBs expire. In my exhaustion I totally missed the date--8 days after the birth. Drat. Drat. DRAT! That still smarts!

I have had a bunch of these!!!
A couple of times my problems stemmed from not calcultating my total correctly (thinking of how much it will be after ecb instead of before.)For instance, I needed a $2 filler and picked up something that was $4 with $2 back and then had to pay the extra $2 oop for something I wasn't planning on buying in the first place. grrr!

I've also let coupons expire or almost expire: when Sex and the City first came out, Best Buy did a promotion where if you bought a season ($16)on DVD you'd get a coupon for a free movie ticket. I didn't need the season (have it burned) but figured I'd use a $10 gift card and then the extra 6 bucks would be less than the actual ticket. Well I waited so long to see the movie that I ended up having to go out the night it expired (10pm on a Sunday) and had to scramble to find someone to go out on a work night! I learned never to procrastinate with a coupon!
