Another Sunday, another $5 Charity Challenge and $5 gift card giveaway to use toward items you can donate to your community! Congratulations to Z at Deals-R-Us who won last week's Challenge and plans to use the $5 CVS gift card to buy school supplies to donate to her daughter’s school.
The rules are the same as last week. Just leave me a comment by Friday at 8 p.m. ET with a little bit on how you’d use a $5 gift card from Rite Aid, Wal-Mart, Walgreens or CVS to benefit your community (e.g., toiletries for the homeless shelter, canned goods for the food pantry, etc.).
Local charities are often in need of shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, razors, lotion, toilet paper, paper towels, dish soap, laundry soap, light bulbs, baby wipes, household cleaners, trash bags, etc. And of course don't forget non-perishable food items and pet food for food pantries.
If you’re the winner, just take a photo of what you bought using the $5 gift card and either send me a link to the blog post you write about the charitable donation or just email me the photo and charity name. I’d love to promote your good work.
Thanks again your participation and good luck. Check out BeCentsAble for another opportunity to participate in a $5 Charity Challenge.

My name is Lea and I am a Blue Star mom of a wounded warrior from Iraq. We live in NC and our Blue Star Moms pack boxes for deployed soldiers, ditty kits for the wounded warriors at Ft Bragg/Womack Army Hospital and also provide hygiene kits to the disabled Vets at the Veterans facility .. Every little bit helps with for these brave men & women....
I forgot to leave my blog address!! You can see past pictures there !
I would use $5 from CVS to purchase razors, deodorant, and shaving gel for a local homeless shelter that my church supports each month.
Come see how to stretch $5 at CVS on my blog!
My two boys and I have been putting together "Kids Packs" for the Mid Ohio Foodbank. Our goal is to fill one or two boxes with healthy snaks, drinks and toiletries a month. We could stretch $5.00 pretty far with all the coupons and CVSing that we do!
My roommates and I in college want to use this to boy canned foods and donate it it a local food pantry. We LOVE doing things for the community!
Have a great week! :-)

I think I would use the CVS gift card to buy toiletries and gifts for elderly people in out local assisted living facility. I think people sometimes forget our older folks.
We don't have Walgreens nearby, so I'm not entering this week. Just wanted to thank you again for your generosity!
I hope you don't mind that I spread the word about this wonderful thing you are doing :)
I created a special CVS transaction this week. You can spend $4.42 OOP and get over $100 in merchandise, including a glucose monitor which is GREAT to donate, and get $5 in ECBs back to spend on more items to donate!
Thanks for a worthwhile cause, Erin!

I make biweekly trips to the local food bank to donate food and toiletries that I have gotten for free/almost free. I would use the card to do some more deal-hunting!
I would give some items to our local Senior Center that is desperate for items!
I'd love to give it to our food bank. They have had several requests out in our local newspaper for food/clothes (for kids going to school) and anything they can get their hands on. I have already donated a backpack full of school supplies and some clothing, but this could really help too!

I am involved with a missions organization (www.allowthechildren.org), and I am traveling to Nepal in January. I would wait until one of those GREAT sales with ECBs on candy, and stock up to provide some kids across the world with a special treat that they only get when the "Americans" visit.
Wow,, what a great idea!!!
I would use it to buy socks and/or underwear for the school where my mom is a nurse.
I would use the card to invest in a larger gift. Initially take the card and purchase items layering deals as much as possible;store sales, coupons, rebates and RR. Continue to do this with the rewards of the initial investment for a designated time frame. After the time is up host a sale to unload products and make cash$$. Families will be lining up soon needing help with heating costs and what a great way to help them by donating cash from your "Sale" to a local agency that can help.
I would use the $5 CVS gift card towards my weekly CVS shopping trip for the USO. I go to CVS once a week and make at least two transactions - one for stuff I need, and another one for things to give to the USO. They have a "grab bin" where the guys there can go and get things they need (shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste...etc).
When I first started coupon-ing, one day I drove to 7 different Walgreens in town and had a blast at the clearance aisle, finding lots of goodies. If I won the $5.00 gift card I think I'd do that again & donate all of the goodies to the local shelter.
I'm shopping for the local Humane Society this week. They are working hard to provide cat food and dog food to current pet owners who cannot feed the animals and so come in to surrender them. The Humane Society provides the food so the animals can remain with their owners.
Also, they always need paper towels, Q-tips, baby wipes and trash bags to help care for the animals at the shelter.
My final shopping item for them will be some dog treats for training the dogs at the shelter to better their chances at being adopted (well behaved dogs are always adopted more quickly!!)
I have just started shopping at CVS about a month ago, and I know that $5 can go a long way. I believe in supporting any charity that has something to do with domestic violence. I was in a very abusive marriage for years, and I know how it feels to have to pack what you can and leave and start over. I have a local charity in my city called 2nd Chance, and they are always in need of shampoo, razors, washing powder, deordorant, feminie products, soap, etc... for their emergency shelter. I would definitely take the $5 giftcard and purchase these items and deliver them.
I'd love to take the $5 charity challenge to see just how far I could stretch $5 to help with the local food bank. Times are tuff nowadays and I know with a little creativity it could go along ways!!
