Gas prices are up. Food prices are up. Everyday living just costs a lot more today than it did a year ago. In light of my recent post about donating at least one item a week to your community, I know that not everyone has a few extra dollars to do this. So, I’d like to give you $5 to make this purchase for a local charity or church in your area.
Each Sunday I’ll put up a post asking for your very best scenario using $5 and coupons shopping the week’s sales at Wal-Mart, CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid. On Tuesday evening I’ll randomly select one scenario and mail out a $5 gift card on Wednesday morning.
All that I ask is that you take a photo of what you bought using the $5 gift card and either send me a link to the blog post you write about the charitable donation or just email me the photo and charity name. I’d love to promote your good work.
I wish I could say I was independently wealthy and that’s how I’ll be able to send out $5 every week. No, not so much. This charitable endeavor will be fully-financed by the ads on my site. So for every click on a coupon and for every person who signs up for samples via the ads on the left and the right, a few cents to a dollar or more will go toward these gift cards.
Look out for my post on Sunday. Let me know what you think about this idea, and thank you so much for your support and participation. I’m really excited to be able to give back to various communities across the country. As we all know, even $5 can go a long way to help someone else less fortunate.

I love it, what a great idea! I look forward to coming up with my giving scenarios and will be posting about your idea!
I think it's a great idea! I'll try to participate each week. I normally do my shopping in one or two big transactions with $5 off $25 coupons at CVS, but maybe this will get me thinking outside the box!
This is an AWESOME idea, Erin! I love it!! I always get something each week in my grocery budget that is put away to donate so I'll be participating too!!
Thanks so much for the great feedback. I'm really looking forward to this! :)
Awesome idea! A friend of mine grabbed a handfull of change ($3.85) and headed to Walgreens for their super cheap school supplies. She got a bag full of great stuff and rang up for $3.84! She then donated it at Publix for their annual School Supply Drive. It just took a little effort. Being generous is simply of matter of being aware of how we can bless others with the overflow in our lives.
Great idea, Erin! What an excellent way to promote giving in the local community!
It's amazing how much you can stretch $5 with some of the drugstore deals. I've literally collected several large bags full to donate to charity just in the past 6 months.
I'll be checking back to see everyone's ideas, and will post one of my own if I come up with a good scenario!

What a great idea!!
My couponing mom group is starting a collection box at church for the single parenting group. We are going to bring from our overflowing stockpiles to help them out! And, when we can pick things up for next too nothing, that we don't even need, they are going in that box!
I may join you here too!
Blessings!
I realize that the challenge doesn't include Kroger, but I had to respond anyway. I was able to purchase 30 packages of Betty Crocker cookie mix at $1.00 each. I had 30 50 cent coupons which they doubled. I got them all for free. I made 60 DOZEN cookies yesterday afternoon for a bake sale this week. One of my husband's best friends was hit by a car while riding his bicycle and died. A trust fund has been set up for his family and all proceeds from this bake sale and other fundraisers being held this week during the National Canoe and Kayak Marathon Competition in Indiana will support the family. (My husband and he were both former marathon kayak national champions.) My out of pocket was about $5.00 for the eggs and shortening. --Kris, stp676 at msn dot com p.s. Sorry I don't have a picture, my camera was stolen a few weeks ago, waiting for a free one from CVS!!
